Newcomers Facing Labour Struggles

Newcomers Facing Labour Struggles (PDF) is an eight-page comic book produced by KEYS Job Centre. Through four real-life scenarios, it illustrates the types of law-related issues newcomers can face when trying to get, and keep, employment in Canada. The comic is available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Persian, Mandarin, and Kirundi and it includes a list of helpful organizations to call for support. The stories, format, and many languages make the material a very engaging and readable resource.

The comic is part of KEYS’ larger Newcomers and the Law education and training project, funded by the Foundation’s Connecting Communities grant program. It trained over 100 frontline service providers and community leaders who work with newcomers. The training covered employment standards, occupational health and safety law, and public safety and immigration law. It also addressed discrimination and how these can affect newcomers’ employment experiences.
