In 2005, The Law Foundation of Ontario established the Roy and Ria McMurtry Endowment in honour of the Chief Justice, the Honourable Roy McMurtry and his wife Ria upon the occasion of his receipt of the LFO’s Guthrie Award. The Guthrie Award is bestowed upon individuals or organizations which make significant contributions to the legal profession and the community.
Two scholarships are awarded annually: one currently goes to the Second Chance Foundation, an organization chosen by the former Chief Justice, and the second is provided on a rotating basis to one of Ontario’s seven law schools.
2006 Recipient
The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation provides post–secondary education scholarships to youth who are or have been involved in the criminal justice system or are at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system.
