Governance

The LFO is a not-for-profit statutory corporation without share capital. It is established under Part III of the Law Society Act and is independent of both the Law Society of Upper Canada and government. The LFO is not a registered charity but does have charitable objects and is also bound by the Trustees Act. The LFO is governed by a board of trustees, who serve without remuneration, and is administered by a small corps of staff.

The LFO submits an annual report to the Ontario Attorney General, who tables it with the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The LFO’s annual report includes a description of its activities for the year, as well as audited financial statements
